Gerry Hatrix was formed in the summer of 2024 by three talented band members from different corners of the United States: John from Kentucky, Gene from Louisiana, and Mark from Illinois. Rooted in the rich traditions of rock and roll, each member contributes decades of music experience, having spent years performing in various bands, choirs, and musical projects. As they embark on their musical journey, they aim to connect with the music community by offering live music performances. I've always had some type of music in my life, from the Big Bands to the Standards. Influenced by my Step Dad’s Chicago background and my older brother’s introduction to the sounds of Bubble Gum, the Stones, and the Beatles, my musical journey began early on.
Growing up in the 70s, I immersed myself in the music of Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Clapton, and Supertramp—staples in my musical experience. Additionally, bands like America, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and the Eagles fueled my admiration and inspiration to sing and play acoustic guitar.
After high school, I became the Front Man, singing in various bands across the Tri-State area of IL, WI, and IN during the early 1980s. We performed live music featuring the hits of the day from AC/DC, Genesis, and Kansas, along with Southern Rock bands like 38 Special, the Allman Brothers, and Molly Hatchet.
For three decades, I've been singing in the Church Choir as my way of giving back and showing praise. I continue to stay active in the music community by keeping up with the latest music from both new and old artists.

Gene’s musical journey began at a young age, rooted in a music community shaped by his musical parents. He started singing early and made appearances on local television children's shows during elementary school. While his musical experience was grounded in Gospel and traditional country and western, Gene also explored genres like Rock and Roll, MoTown, Opera, Show Tunes, Pop, and Metal. It's likely he was the only 16-year-old in the woods around Castor Plunge, Louisiana, jamming to Ozzie and Alice Cooper while leading the singing in the local backwoods Baptist Church! Gene has had the honor of performing live music in numerous foreign countries, including Ireland, Scotland, France, and across eastern and western Europe, as well as in his home state of Louisiana.
Despite his professional life as a Registered Nurse, HealthCare Administrator, Business Owner, and Veteran, Gene never let go of his passion for music. He eventually connected with band members Mark and John through local church choirs and variety shows. Now, they are excited to share their music with you and encourage you to subscribe for updates on upcoming shows and booking information!
From the age of nine, John loved music and was a very talented percussionist. He joined the school band and played in the marching and concert bands throughout his school years. In junior high, he was selected as the student band director, showcasing his early leadership skills among his band members. John also sang and played the drums in the church choir while traveling the country, enriching his music experience. After a 51-year break due to marriage and family commitments, an invitation to join a church variety show reignited his passion for live music. This opportunity even led to a chance to perform in the Holy Land with his wife in the church choir, although their performance was unfortunately cancelled due to the outbreak of war. Undeterred, John returned to playing music and soon formed the Gerry Hatrix Rock Band with Mark and Gene. After eight months of rehearsals and practice, the rock band played their first concert, performing to a crowd of over 300 people.
